In what the Parks and Rec Board believes the community wants, it will present a plan to the Joint Meeting of the Town and County this afternoon to build a 34,000,000 dollar retrofit of the Rec Center.
Phase one includes a re-configuration of the site and parking, relocation of the main entrance, new offices, meeting room, birthday party room, drop-in daycare, second gymnasium, dry locker rooms, general circulation, and wellness facilities. It would also include the realignment of King Street.
Phase two will renovate the aquatics facility, and add an outdoor splash pad.
Phase three of will expand the aquatics with a two board dive pool, enlarged therapy pool that includes both shallow and deep water, a lesson/activity pool, and the renovation and relocation of the hot tub as well as utility space, laundry space, dry classrooms, storage, first aid facilities, additional mechanical rooms, chemical storage, and expanded deck space and bleachers. Phase three will also expand the center on the northwest corner of the facility. This area has been considered for a climbing facility. About 6,500 square feet of floor area is anticipated.
The Parks and Rec Board conducted community outreach that they said overwhelmingly supported the planned retrofit and by approving nearly 900000 dollars in planning costs.
The meeting is at 3 at the County Administration Building.
