Firefighters Prepare Pinedale’s Skyline Drive Area By Thinning Fuels

by Jackson Hole. Media

The Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest announced that work will resume on the Skyline Wildland Urban Interface Fuels Reduction project beginning June 28, 2017 in Pinedale, Wyoming.

Crews will be thinning and hand piling the remaining 20-acres adjacent to the Sylvan Bay Summer Home area. Once complete, they will move on to West Fortification Mountain to thin and hand pile across the west face of the mountain, approximately 170-acres, along with 30-acres north and adjacent to the five permitted homes.

The piles will be left to cure and then will be burned once conditions allow.

The Skyline Fuels Reduction project was designed to lower the risk from wildfire to homes and private property by removing hazardous fuel loads in the Sylvan Bay Wildland Urban Interface (WUI). This effort will help moderate fire behavior during a wildfire and increase firefighter and public safety.

Skyline Wildland Urban Interface Fuels Reduction Project Final Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact was signed 09/13/2016.
