L2L 2018 Aims to Foster Resiliency & Improve Communications Skills
WY Native, Fashion Designer & Women’s Advocate Abi Ferrin to Deliver Keynote Address
With the goal of improving leadership abilities, fostering resiliency and enhancing communications skills, the Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus (WyoWLC) announced the agenda for the 11th Annual Leap into Leadership (L2L) event February 13th & 14th, 2018 in Cheyenne.
This year’s program will feature workshops on developing and perfecting science-based leadership tools as well as the basics of launching and running a campaign. Katie Groke Ellis of Vote Run Lead will host a seminar on running for public office, giving participants the tools and knowledge they need to launch a campaign. Former Jackson Mayor and communications consultant Sara Flitner will lead a workshop on rewiring leadership to utilize personal experience and trends in science to enhance your skills for leading teams and organizations.
“As the WyoWLC marks our 11th anniversary of Leap into Leadership, we are pleased to have this opportunity to facilitate a constructive dialogue on the leadership skills needed to be successful,” said WyoWLC Co-Chair Representative Sue Wilson. “We’ve brought together leaders and experts from across the country for a program that we hope will not only spur women to run for office, but also develop their natural leadership skills at work, on boards and in their community.”
“The Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus is working to not only ensure we have diverse voices at the table, but that these voices are well equipped with the skills, networking abilities and support to be successful leaders in any leadership role they fill,” said WyoWLC Co-Chair Representative Cathy Connolly.
Wyoming native, fashion designer and longtime women’s advocate Abi Ferrin will deliver the keynote speech at the Legislative Dinner. As a fashion designer, Ferin has used her platform to inspire women, and as a philanthropist she created her company to support women while dressing them. Ferrin ensures that all garments that bear the Abi Ferrin label are made by individuals who are paid honest wages in a clean and safe work environment. Through her Freedom Project, she supports rescue, rehabilitation and entrepreneurial opportunities for former victims of sexual trafficking and abusive employment. She has also launched the Purpose Project, which features real woman of all shapes, sizes, ages and abilities modeling Ferrin’s clothes and sharing their stories.
“Abi has used her incredible professional success to not only empower and promote women, but to facilitate real change in the fashion industry,” said WyoWLC Co-Chair Senator Affie Ellis. “Through her initiative, the Freedom Project, she has provided women and their families around the globe with hope, meaning and purpose. Abi is a daughter of which Wyoming can be incredibly proud.”
L2L will be held February 13th & 14th at the Little America Hotel in Cheyenne. The program will feature workshops on bolstering female leadership across Wyoming. Tickets for L2L, both the full program and the dinner, can be purchased at http://wyowlc.org/leap-into-leadership/register/.
