Business Council Seeks Applicants For Federal Grant Program

The Wyoming Business Council is seeking projects that help low- and moderate-income families and individuals, prevent or eliminate slum or blight or address urgent community development needs in anticipation of federal funds for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

Communities and nonprofits with potential projects are encouraged to fill out the National Objective Pre-Approval Checklist on the Business Council website: https://tinyurl.com/CDBGprequal.

The 2018 budget hasn’t been allocated by the federal government yet, but past allocations have been about $2.7 million.

Eligible project types include infrastructure, downtown development, community facilities, renovation to make facilities accessible to the disabled and homeownership assistance.

Wyoming has received CDBG state funding since the inception of the program over 40 years ago. Allocations over time have changed but the state has benefitted from approximately $135 million dollars in funding over that time. Many of Wyoming’s historic county courthouses have been made accessible with CDBG funding. Aging infrastructure has been replaced where it benefits those most in need, seniors gather in centers that were provided or renovated with CDBG funds. The program has made Wyoming’s quality of life better and has provided critical services to some of the most vulnerable populations.

Prequalification forms must be submitted no later than March 19, 2018. Business Council staff will determine whether the proposed project is eligible and notify the community or nonprofit that it may fill out the full application, which is due June 15.
